12.1 Introduction

A decentralized protocol cannot depend indefinitely on its original developers.

While AllenHark is responsible for designing, funding, and launching the first version of OpenFiat, the long-term success of the protocol depends upon transferring decision-making authority to the community.

Governance provides the mechanism through which the protocol evolves.

Rather than relying on private meetings or corporate decisions, OpenFiat defines a transparent process through which OPEN token holders collectively propose, discuss, approve, and implement protocol changes.

Governance extends beyond software upgrades.
